Only twice in all the gospels are we told that the Son of Man was taken by surprise. And the two things that astonished Him were the faith of a heathen, and the want of faith of His own people in His own home. It was a' man of alien race and civilisation who opened up to the thought of the chosen people of God the riches of a faith which they had supposed peculiarly their own. We shall do well to remember this, for we live in an age When those whom we are accustomed to call heathen are often secret disciples of the Lord J esus.
